Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

is situated in the very heart of the Beskydy and Vsetin mountains, at the base of the sacred mountain Radhost. Things to see:

  • Wallachian Open Air Museum- offers a unique insight into life in the past. The museum has 3 different parts-The Wooden Town, The Wallachian Village (original historical types of crop are grown in the fields) and The Water Mill Valley (the original water mill, the saw mill and the hammer are fully functional, cattle and chickens are kept the same way as they were kept in the past)
  • UNIPAR - one of the world leaders in the production of interior and aromatic candles. There is a factory shop and a tour of the factory where the candles are manufactured can be arranged.

Pustevny, Radhošť

  • Looking up and behind Rožnov pod Radhoštěm you will see the sacred mountain Radhošť, the symbol of Wallachia. A good starting point for a trip to Radhošť is the popular tourist destination Pustevny which you can reach by car via the village of Prostřední Bečva. You can admire traditional wooden buildings by architect Jurkovič called Maměnka and Libušín. On your way to the top you will come across a statue of Radegast, pagan god of hospitality, fertility and harvest. Old legend says that if you walk around the statue three times and make a wish, it will come true.
  • You can reach the peak of Radegast (1129 m above sea level) by following the mountain path and admiring the breathtaking Beskydy Mountain views on your way. There is a Cyril and Methodius chapel at the top, built in 1896-1898 with a sculptural group of the saints outside (installed in 1931) and a stone cross (1805).

Velké Karlovice

  • Historical wooden church
  • Karlovice Museum- permanent exhibition of Wallachian life and paintings by famous local artists.

Karolinka

  • Glass plant Charlotta – traditional blown glass production. There is an opportunity to purchase glass products and souvenirs

Vsetín

  • Vsetin castle-central point and the oldest building in the area offering various museum exhibitions. The castle park is famous for its precious and unusual woods.
  • Observatory situated on Horni Square

Vizovice

  • Rudolf Jelinek (one of the greatest producers of fruit brandy) – factory tours available, R.Jelinek Museum, spirit drink tasting, traditional fruit spirit production, factory shop
  • Vizovice castle- collection of paintings and porcelain, valuable collection of Dutch paintings, large castle park with many sculptures and regular classical music concerts.

Lešná (Zlín)

  • Zoo- there are more that 1140 different types of wood and ornamental plants within the zoo. The whole complex is full of romantic valleys with little streams, lakes and waterfalls within the animal enclosures. It's the only zoo in Moravia that keeps elephants. There is a unique animal petting area. The zoo is split according to continents.
  • Castle- famous for its unique wood carved decoration and a large oriental collection. The castle park neighbouring the zoo contains hundred years old trees

Teplice nad Bečvou

  • Abbys- the deepest Czech and central European abyss. The dry part, which can be viewed, is 69.5 m deep. The latest survey conducted in 1995 confirmed the depth of the flooded part of the abyss to be 205m.
  • Spa offering medicinal mineral water
  • Zbrasov Aragonite Caves- cave system unique to Europe, formed by simultaneously working atmospheric and deep hot mineral waters forced from deep within the limestone.
  • Helfštýn castle – situated in the middle of the forest covered hills above the graceful river Bečva. It offers learning, entertainment and recreation. It often stages jousting, theatre, musical and dance productions.

Frenštát pod Radhoštěm

Place where the Lachian and Wallachian cultures meet. The focus point is the town square with a partially preserved original arcade and town houses.

  • Museum- specializing in weaving and folk art
  • Ski jumping ramp with ceramic tracks

Nový Jičín

  • Žerotín castle – the County Homeland Study Museum headquarters
  • Historical square with an arcade, hat museum, exhibition hall, renaissance hall and “The Old Post Office”

Štramberk

Small mountain based town, known for its picture postcard charm. It prides itself on a collection of unique folk wallachian houses from 18th and 19th century. The town is also renowned for the “Štramberk ears”, cone shaped gingerbread cookies.

  • Castle Strallenbeg ruins are known for the cylindrical tower called Trúba.

Kopřivnice

  • Technical museum Tatra- large collection of cars and trucks and other products made by Kopřivnice based company Tatra
